2022's hottest artistic trends

We can consult the design professionals to learn more about this year's most popular design and artistic trends. A design marketplace called 1stDibs just published its annual Interior Design Trends Survey. The top color, design, and art trends for 2022 were discussed by more than 750 design professionals from around the world.

As the only style that a majority of respondents (54%) said they would use, abstract art is expected to be the most popular this year. Modern and contemporary are the next two most popular types. (I obviously LOVE this!)

With 48% of designers indicating they want to use sculpture more and 41% saying they will use it the same amount each year, designers also anticipated using it more to decorate.

More than half of the designers said they will use drawings, pictures, paintings, and prints in projects at the same rate every year, indicating that these mediums will continue to be in demand.

In their designs, 17% of designers indicated they would use fewer posters and other detritus, while 44% said they already don't.

How to use these artistic trends to your interior design

Redecorating your space can be enjoyable and fun. And with current trends, there is a lot of freedom to experiment and really pick out items that suit your style and space.

Simply, pick items you love.

You will look at it every day, so you should prioritize the following piece of advice when decorating your home: Choose a piece of art you enjoy. Don't choose anything just because it's popular or trendy. Nevertheless, abstract, contemporary, and modern art are quite diverse genres, making it simple to choose works that you find both fashionable and aesthetically pleasing.

Ease into abstract with neutral colors

When people think of abstract and modern art, they generally picture canvases abundant with colors and shapes. But these art styles encompass so much more than that. Not every abstract piece looks like a Jackson Pollock painting!

To immerse your home in these art styles gently, try to find more minimalistic pieces that use neutral colors. Artwork with simpler graphics can fit seamlessly in almost any room and offer the sophistication of modern art without the overstimulation.

A softer-style abstract with neutral colors can be a really easy way to add a calming, but interesting addition to your space.

Think about scale

In addition to the visual style of the piece, you should also consider the size. Whether you’re shopping for wall hangings or sculptures, it’s crucial to consider your space first. If you have a small or medium apartment with minimal wall space, a smaller piece won’t overwhelm the space.

Display your art properly

When hanging wall art, it’s generally recommended to place paintings at eye level.

Sculptures and 3D art needs “room to breathe” — make sure you give them plenty of space so they don’t look too crowded. Don’t be afraid to get creative with your placement, too. Get inspired by the unexpected nature of abstract art when deciding where in your home to place it.

You can use mutiple abstracts together as long as they don’t compete with each other (similar colors/shades/tones).
