Beginner Art Techniques - Help! My Acrylic Painting Looks Dried Out (How to Fix it)

Acrylic Painting Tips - Creating a Beautiful Finish with Glazes

Learn to paint with acrylics like a pro!

Often newbie artists working with acrylics will find that their painting looks dry or dull after it has dried.

Why?

The usual culprit is because they have added too much water to their acrylics and it has broken down the pigments which results in a dry/dusty look.

Or, the artist has used craft or low-quality paints which don’t have the pigment load and luster of higher quality paints.

Mixing mediums with your acrylics will help this.

Using either glazes or mediums (like gloss or matte) or gels will give your paints a beautiful body and luster.

However, if you find your painting doesn’t look as lustrous as you’d like, you can help it by giving it a (pre-varnish) final coat or two of glaze.

This short video will show you my personal glaze "recipe" and how I use it.

Glazes I use and recommend:

Satin - https://amzn.to/2JuR7fG

Gloss - https://amzn.to/30sUolr

I always have these in-stock in my studio as I mix them with acrylics and often use them as a final pre-varnish glaze.
